Skelwith Fold Caravan Park

Ambleside, Cumbria

Park Description

As you turn through the gates at Skelwith Fold the magical red road, winding to the park reception, is canopied by trees and bordered by woodland where you’ll likely catch a glimpse of resident wildlife, such as roe deer, woodpeckers, and if you’re lucky, even a red squirrel.

Skelwith Fold's 120 touring pitches for Caravan and Motorhome holidays are scattered throughout a 130-acre woodland site, offering guests the opportunity to cohabit with wildlife, woodland, wetland and fell habitats found within the caravan sites boundaries.

The park offer self-contained Hideaways which are located in one of the park’s quietest and most wildlife-friendly spots. For those wanting a unique couples getaway, the Hideaways provide the perfect retreat for a few days.

Although Skelwith Fold houses over 400 pitches it has the feel of a much smaller park – the various accommodation areas have been carefully and sympathetically set out in small woodland glades, settled amongst natural undulating features, creating a sense of quiet and intimacy.

"Stay at Skelwith Fold"

A wonderful site - it is deceptively large and located in a beautiful wood but is so well set out with smaller bays divided by lots of trees and shrubs that it feels much more intimate. The locality is wonderful and we didn’t need to move the van all week as we could walk or cycle to everything. There are excellent walks straight out of the site into the hills in all directions, swimming spots in local rivers and tarns, quiet cycle paths and brilliant pubs and restaurants. Staff couldn’t be more pleasant and helpful and are always hard at work cleaning and looking after the site’s outdoor facilities. The washroom facilities are excellent and spotless even being fumigated against viruses mid morning (only 1 teeny annoyance is the high pressure on the hot taps and you often end up soaked!) We have recommended it to friends and family and will definitely be returning. It was such a welcome break in the midst of this very weird year and we really didn’t want to come home

"Surpassed expectations!"

L Parkinson - Stayed with friends, Sep 2020

Skelwith Fold is an exceptional camp site. Was really surprised at the quality of the facilities, the toilet and shower blocks supremely clean and modern, nice touch to have heated floor in shower cubicle WiFi is available throughout the site and connection is strong.

"Great setting for a caravan park"

Mr C Ebden - Stayed with family, Sep 2020

Set in a wood, this caravan site is quiet, has very well kept grounds, with very clean facilities. There are short walks around its own grounds & lake. Ambleside centre is 2 miles away by road, with a bus stop at the site entrance. It has a decent shop on site.... We visited when it was dark by 8pm and the walk to dish washing and toilet block was hazardous!

"Great for some many things"

Dr A McKrell - Stayed with family, Sep 2020

We love it here. We park the caravan next to the kiddy play area which is great by the way and so the kids can go out and play whilst we watch with a cup of tea. It’s in a really good location for ease of access to a lot of the places we like to go in the lakes. There... We love it here. It’s in a really good location for ease of access to a lot of the places we like to go in the lakes. There are some really nice walks near by. Has some great places to eat in walking distance Chesters and the drunken duck. Quite frankly when I come to the lakes I don’t want to stay anywhere else.

"Unbeatable"

I almost don’t want to review this site because it is so perfect and selfishly I would hate it to be fully booked and we couldn’t get a pitch!!! Enough said!
