"A perfect vacation"

Mrs A Senior - Stayed with family, May 2018

Auchenlaire is situated in one of the most beautiful parts of the world ; beaches , mountains , lochs and glens as well as some of the most stunning forests . If you like walking , wildlife or extreme sports they are all on the doorstep- what is there not to love ?

"lovely holiday"

Ideal location to see a lovely unspoilt area of scotland. We had a 4 berth caravan which was very clean and had everything we needed including a wonderful view of the coast line. Would love to stay again.

"Fantastic park"

Mrs B Baxter - Stayed with family, May 2018

Absolutely loved here. My only criticism is that some of the tent pitches in the field are very close to the main road and the rumbling and tooting of horns goes on throughl night. That being said , I found it less annoying on my second stay so maybe u get used to it.... Absolutely loved here. The park itself is absolutely fantastic. Grounds, beach and toiltes are immaculate.

For those who want to get away from ever day life and see landscape and wildlife that keeps you looking for your next mountain deer or red kite, a visit to a rock and gem museum that as it describes itself is a treasure a visit to a lighthouse and the artist galleries... "1st Time Visiting"

Mr R Kerr - Stayed with partner, May 2018

We found the site very welcoming, clean and friendly. We had dinner there on our 1st night which was great value for money. The location is ideal and the pod we stayed in was ideal for what we needed at a reasonable cost.

"Great location but a few other bugs!"

Booking our holiday was a doddle. We booked a Park Lodge (I'll come back to that) despite there being no pictures of the various listed accomodation. How could anyone get that wrong? We booked a Park Lodge (I'll come back to that) despite there being no pictures of the various listed accomodation. How could anyone get that wrong? After all, other times we have stayed in a 'lodge' it has been in the log cabin/summer house style of accomodation hence happily booking this one. However this 'Park Lodge' was in fact a static caravan, admittedly one of those wide two-piece affairs but it still had wheels and screwjacks. If I wanted to stay in a caravan, I could have brought my own! With three rooms to choose from we opted easily for the double with en-suite, putting our spare stuff in one of the smaller rooms and shut the door. Next mistake! It was very hot next day and when we came back from a walk the caravan was stifling. Went to get something from our bags in the 'spare rooms' and was almost physically sick! The stench of urine in both twin rooms was overpowering! We reported this immediately to reception (along with the question, "Is this really a 'Park Lodge'?" The answer was indeed in the affirmative) and someone must have popped down straight away and sprayed Febreeze in one of the rooms! The smell remained the entire holiday but was thankfully detained behind the firmly closed doors. Housekeeping left a bit to be desired with cobwebs, toys on the floor and splashed shower screens in both bathrooms and not forgetting the, we assume, urine-impregnated mattresses. My wife has a professional eye for such things as it is her main job. So it was with interest to note that when the cleaners arrived next door to clean between visitors, three of them spent a massive 15 minutes to do a complete changeover! That would explain the cobwebs, toys and splashes (think that covers both types!) Walking down to the Bistro/Takeaway we were a bit put off by the stink of sewage from what looks like a homemade sewage treatment plant between the park and the sea. My biggest gripe though, was the big thing made of the 'Entertainment Pass' which cost us a tenner each. You need one of these to take advantage of the entertainment... Except that the place that you need the passes for appears only to open from Friday to Sunday night. We arrived late on Friday, were too tired Saturday and Sunday but weren't fussed as we could avail ourselves of the entertainment offered, the whole rest of the week... except it seems we couldn't so wasted 20 quid. But of course there were an awful lot of positive's: The weather was fantastic, the location and views absolutely stunning, especially from our elevated position sat on our terrace. Ah there was a downside there too as according to the booking information, 'Park Lodges' have a hot tub... except actually they don't and all the staff said was that the info was wrong. Yay great! Thought I was going mad there for a minute... The little site shop is incredibly well stocked with very reasonable prices. The on-site takeaway is set up for online ordering and works brilliantly. Very quick, reasonably priced and happy and friendly staff. The Bistro was a bit slow but we couldn't blame the girls working there, they never stopped, unlike the guy who (we assume works in there but I think that's stretching the description somewhat) stood around most of the time drinking coffee or eating. Food was good and I can recommend the Gammon Horeshoe which very nearly beat me! So SHG people, decent sized pictures of the various accomodation inside and out. GIve your poor cleaners a bit more time to do their jobs properly (including employing at least one cleaner with a sense of smell please). A bit more accuracy and transparency with the Booking Info and those Entertainment Passes.
