Wed 5 July, 2017

Schools out for summer and with it comes the groans of parents throughout the UK wondering how they are going to entertain their teenage kids all summer. The boredom factor is hard to navigate with so much free time needing filled. The solution – take your teens camping! This might sound like a nightmare scenario at first but after reading our 5 reasons why, you will be hopping into the car en-route to the nearest campsite.

Unplug & reconnect

Research* estimates that children between 8 and 18 spend close to 8 hours a day in front of a TV, computer or phone screen! Communicating with a teenager who constantly has their face stuck in a phone is near impossible. Camping is the perfect way to unplug your teen and connect them to a world beyond their electronics. Interacting face to face – not phone to phone is definitely a winner for parents of teenagers who often have to compete with technology. With the removal of technology you can build a stronger relationship with your teens and reconnect as a family. For those teenagers who couldn’t cope with going ‘cold turkey’, many modern campsites will have access to Wi-Fi so they can still utilise their electronic devices every now and then.

Rekindle the adventure

Camping relights a sense of adventure for both parents and teenagers. It is a chance to step out of your comfort zone and try new things. Camping is a great way to get outdoors and get active. There are many family-friendly campsites that offer a host of outdoor activities. Campsites near a beach can offer swimming, surfing and horse riding. Campsites near a lake can benefit from other water activities such as kayaking and canoeing. Campsites in a forest can provide cycling routes, tree top walks and zip-lining to get the adrenaline pumping. All these activities have the added bonus of exercise, whilst working up an appetite for the evening s’mores.

Memories that last

Family camping trips offer a unique chance to spend quality time with your teenagers and are a great opportunity to create lasting family memories.
