Campsites in East Midlands

Campsites in East Midlands

Easily accessed from the M1 and M5, the East Midlands is a surprisingly verdant and scenic area for camping and caravanning covering Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Rutland. Many caravan and campsites in the East Midlands are clustered around beauty spots such as Stratford-upon-Avon and the beautiful Peak District National Park. Outdoor recreational activities, cultural attractions, historic places to visit and plenty of tasty local specialties for foodies make camping in the East Midlands a great holiday choice.

Camping in East Midlands

Whether you are looking for traditional caravan sites in the East Midlands, glamping or camping holidays, the East Midlands has plenty of choice. Historic Shropshire towns such as Ludlow, Shrewsbury and Ironbirdge combine with excellent walking and cycling trails just minutes away from your chosen campsite, perhaps in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Worcestershire is a haven for artisans and painters with great walking opportunities in the Malvern Hills and the Severn Way. It's a wonderful area to find peaceful caravan parks. East Midlands campsites in Staffordshire include plenty of wildlife at places like Highgate Common, a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Or how about spending the day visiting the Potteries or the Black Country Museum in Birmingham?

Further east, Lincolnshire has a flat arable landscape with plenty of woodland walks. It's an ideal choice for walking, cycling and camping holidays in the East Midlands. Holiday parks on the coast are good for families, within easy reach of the seaside at Skegness and the historic towns of Boston and Lincoln.

Camping in the Peak District

Where better to enjoy England's glorious scenery, gushing rivers, wild flower meadows, limestone crags and rolling sheep-nibbled hills than one of the many camping and holiday parks in Derbyshire. The Peak District was Britain's first national park, showing just how special this area is. Delightful villages with chintzy tea rooms are the perfect place to find refreshments after a pleasant hike. The annual well dressings throughout Derbyshire in the summer are definitely worth seeing.

Campsites in the Peak District are often on farms, making them ideal for family weekend breaks with the opportunity to experience life on a working farm. Spring is a great time to see newborn lambs and perhaps bottle-feed them at a farm attraction close to your Derbyshire campsite.

Glamping and Campsites in the Peak District National Park

Glamping in the East Midlands is particularly popular in the Peak District area with everything from gypsy caravans to yurts and handmade shepherds' huts. For those who enjoy fly fishing, Rivendale Caravan Park offers a range of options for glamping and camping in the Peak District. It has luxury lodges near the pub and heated pods and yurts for glamping breaks in the Peak District. At the other end of the scale, it offers wild camping on 11 acres of unspoilt meadow.

Top Campsites and Caravan Parks in East Midlands

Recommended caravan sites in the Peak District include Laneside Caravan Park, in a delightful riverside setting near Hope. The nearby village of Castleton and the Blue John Cavern offer unique attractions at any time of year. Pomeroy Caravan Park is a family-run camping and caravan site in the Peak District National Park with direct access onto the 17-mile High Peak Trail. It's within easy reach of the spa town of Buxton and the stately home and estate of Chatsworth.

Camping in Nottingham

One final area with excellent campsites is Nottinghamshire, close to the Peak District and the royal Sherwood Forest, famously the hideout of Robin Hood. Top campsites in Nottingham include Thorntons Holt Camping Park which is within easy reach of Cotgrave Country Park, Grantham Canal and a network of cycle paths through the scenic countryside. Nottinghamshire campsites and caravan parks are ideal for spontaneous getaways, even if it's just for the weekend.
